It is the best feeling when you come across a great item at the flea market! I found this awesome mid-century tea cart at the <a href="http://www.thirdsundaymarket.com/" target="_blank">3rd Sunday Market</a> in Bloomington, IL last month. The round shape and original lucite wheels are what I love most about this piece. The chipped black paint and rose etched glass...not so much. It needed some TLC and I was hoping after getting it spruced up that it would be a great addition to my back deck. </div>

<b>IN PROGRESS:</b></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
After sanding down the clumpy paint job that was on the cart. A HUGE thanks to my dad for his help with the not-so-fun paint stripping and sanding portion of this project! </div>

A fresh white paint job, a brand new piece of mirror for the bottom shelf and a brand new piece of textured glass for the top shelf...now we're in business! I think the bright white color shows off the circle shape so much better. </div>

And I like to show them off in my house too. My favorite photos to frame are travel photos of scenery and things from places that I have visited. When I first hung 4 frames in my hallway I used photos from my trip to China...a photo of a doorway & large vase, the inside roof of a pergola, a bridge over a pond and large paper lanterns hung over a pond. Loved it and enjoyed them in my hallway for a few years. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
But it was time for a change! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had room in the hall for another matching frame and I wanted to switch out the pictures for new ones from my recent trip to several Central American countries. A quick trip to Michael's (with my 40% off coupon in hand!) for another frame and Sam's Club for the photo enlargements and I was almost done with the project! (The hardest part was hanging the new frame level with the old one!)<div>

Try this in your house...so easy...inexpensive...and fun to switch out the photos when you want a change! If you aren't into taking pictures you can do this same thing with pictures from calendars or images you print off from online. You can also search around on Flickr and look at other people's photos...many of whom will sell you an image if you want it!</div>

When I first put up the floating shelves above my TV credenza I only had a concept for one shelf and not the other. One shelf displays 3 turquoise vases from <a href="http://www.crateandbarrel.com/">Crate and Barrel.</a> I bought them this past summer when the credenza and shelves were only a vision in my head! I was coming up empty for the second shelf until I found a very cool and inexpensive picture frame at <a href="http://www.target.com/">Target</a>. It is gray, yellow and white and has vintage looking bicycles all over it. Thought it was a good way to bring some yellow over to that side of the room. The frame wasn't enough to fill up the shelf, though....so this is when the idea of bicycle parts on the shelf came to me! But not just regular bicycle parts...high gloss yellow and white bicycle parts! Are you still with me!?!?<br /><div></div><br />I picked up these 3 old bike parts at <a href="http://thebikeproject.org/">The Bike Project</a> in Urbana. They are a non-profit organization that operates a small shop and is the only place in town I could find that sells individual parts! I think all 3 pieces cost me about $8. It was fun to root around in the boxes and boxes of parts, but I did end up quite greasy!<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFB_Ux8GKdJAlV60tOg4n4VEwemRT_1g39B60DsCkKL8Nl_pKjHO0q-7flxqDwJxpf010cySJzoCpGoXkr8tJ0QtV5iR76DHDWkD6K4sc0FIVxZ7ueu1y7TuGe8kP8SwU9CnRK4wDpTOrU/s1600/Blog+014.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564436894085972658" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFB_Ux8GKdJAlV60tOg4n4VEwemRT_1g39B60DsCkKL8Nl_pKjHO0q-7flxqDwJxpf010cySJzoCpGoXkr8tJ0QtV5iR76DHDWkD6K4sc0FIVxZ7ueu1y7TuGe8kP8SwU9CnRK4wDpTOrU/s320/Blog+014.jpg" /></a> All three pieces had some grease and dirt on them, but the smaller gear was a mess! First step was to clean and degrease them. I bought a bottle of Purple Power degreaser and it worked great! <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiT-3AJf4djNgSur6oXtoWG5MlSIor-GAH7s4HDvN8KlUCNlZz0LyTwgjdgnLB9BXke170xlsM9hDLKijgzQilie_B7dbYPNoAHUPxw3MdNhXpA4k5kDHitFe6WuQamXFo-hNq197dubQe/s1600/Blog+015.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564437402710669058" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhiT-3AJf4djNgSur6oXtoWG5MlSIor-GAH7s4HDvN8KlUCNlZz0LyTwgjdgnLB9BXke170xlsM9hDLKijgzQilie_B7dbYPNoAHUPxw3MdNhXpA4k5kDHitFe6WuQamXFo-hNq197dubQe/s320/Blog+015.jpg" /></a><br />After cleaning and drying, I sprayed them with some white primer and then a couple of coats of high-gloss spray paint...two pieces in yellow and one in white.<br /><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg94sYXzFPD2qz5l2eIIPK41fP869gZ3CAt80MXSd1QE1ljP41EGCr2wWAjHxtd1kN7lhSH25_x87UpyrmP6KOssJSCB_KaDlZc0vIMUB2sBSknM9p0JpFX7Xcg7-UY7gvXlYbVaPVtWU21/s1600/Blog+016.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564437959080461810" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg94sYXzFPD2qz5l2eIIPK41fP869gZ3CAt80MXSd1QE1ljP41EGCr2wWAjHxtd1kN7lhSH25_x87UpyrmP6KOssJSCB_KaDlZc0vIMUB2sBSknM9p0JpFX7Xcg7-UY7gvXlYbVaPVtWU21/s320/Blog+016.jpg" /></a><br /></p><p>Final product up on the shelves with the picture frame... </p><p>By the way...the image in the picture frame was something I printed off the internet from a Google search of "vintage bicycle"...makes it look more like art instead of sticking a family photo in there...</p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1hTkv5pRUcSeYnvgcR47uHbA1x7FfSNa0FQQhz91lG0KGJKQkUbCv_B9B2Au6WYHM_ktnnVE0MH5h75tAFLiaia1aGvV4nO_mjXRv8IpSZD5kpOoq8FswoSSrLh_zy0ixwZDAHb3K03Va/s1600/Blog+024.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564438370326796562" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1hTkv5pRUcSeYnvgcR47uHbA1x7FfSNa0FQQhz91lG0KGJKQkUbCv_B9B2Au6WYHM_ktnnVE0MH5h75tAFLiaia1aGvV4nO_mjXRv8IpSZD5kpOoq8FswoSSrLh_zy0ixwZDAHb3K03Va/s320/Blog+024.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdqZvIsenL_jFwrTqg52OG4XWn5n1NBfWM6nid4MuYXhK0Wq_dG4V0eRjR5HXtvm36UACaQOG7l3DtmwLzvMIepWjGeVmKorfzhwuM6nSUmC0Lq9o3C0p2rTAau417wmgskzSvmj3UAs3B/s1600/Blog+025.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564438492217779138" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdqZvIsenL_jFwrTqg52OG4XWn5n1NBfWM6nid4MuYXhK0Wq_dG4V0eRjR5HXtvm36UACaQOG7l3DtmwLzvMIepWjGeVmKorfzhwuM6nSUmC0Lq9o3C0p2rTAau417wmgskzSvmj3UAs3B/s320/Blog+025.jpg" /></a> I like...I like! One of the fun things about shelves like this is that you can change them up from time to time to freshen up your room or use them for seasonal decoration displays...swapping out items on the shelves can give you small little fun projects as well as allow you to rotate your display pieces so that they all get a little time out for others to see...so, I guess we'll see how long the shelves stay looking like this...but for now, I am really happy with the way they look!<br /></p>adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-29424179217560734482011-01-20T18:32:00.005-06:002011-01-20T18:44:00.522-06:00Vintage Find: Yellow coastersFun vintage find....yellow patent leather coaster set! Cool, huh!?!? I found these at the <a href="http://www.ravenswoodantiquemart.com/">Ravenswood Antique Mart</a> in the Lincoln Square neighborhood of Chicago. This antique mart is a very fun place to browse, but most items were very much over my price range! I guess that is why I only came home with these coasters! ha! Seriously though, I would recommend taking a cruise around this store if you are looking for some high quality mid century items...everything in the store is in really great shape or has been restored. Quite a bit of furniture and tons of accessories and vintage jewerly. It is a real antique mart where different vendors have "booths" in the space...so the items are coming from several different sources. I have made two visits and both times would say that all vendors are displaying pristine things with a price tag to match!<br /><br />The entire set was in really great shape with no tears or scrathes in the patent leather...and I thought the buckle was really fun too!<br /><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQRSAWtDreWPTkIeKGIr5Eg22_9egji1DdJKCvSRAdxn_kv7Rcni4qLNrsNSDxAPwhougm7jQ0IHWBhxY5inWmjStyxXkfjS38UtubGMyX4RJx8Pt-om85uWSx26w2DlRPDHHk4sVVyHso/s1600/Blog+023.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564431436506059634" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQRSAWtDreWPTkIeKGIr5Eg22_9egji1DdJKCvSRAdxn_kv7Rcni4qLNrsNSDxAPwhougm7jQ0IHWBhxY5inWmjStyxXkfjS38UtubGMyX4RJx8Pt-om85uWSx26w2DlRPDHHk4sVVyHso/s320/Blog+023.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXLVKepLuvFiW5Ntr-h_0vsz_wvys4Iq_fIw2hTbbLb3c3k_iIYDG1HVMwOzMA_xVScnb_dMp-YcmYU07Z6RjvVESj6xpRb1HmK__p4eVGoJ-TwRhgJYCJiDmxXAWvRrmZrK_M8-49cStx/s1600/Blog+026.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5564431513455354690" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXLVKepLuvFiW5Ntr-h_0vsz_wvys4Iq_fIw2hTbbLb3c3k_iIYDG1HVMwOzMA_xVScnb_dMp-YcmYU07Z6RjvVESj6xpRb1HmK__p4eVGoJ-TwRhgJYCJiDmxXAWvRrmZrK_M8-49cStx/s320/Blog+026.jpg" /></a>adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-37595720050419581992011-01-06T17:28:00.006-06:002013-06-15T14:06:11.718-05:00Ta Da! Transformed CredenzaYou know when you have a vision...you can just picture something in your mind and that is how you want your room to look...that was me with my living room. I had a vision since I moved in of a very long, low credenza up against one wall. A piece with some open and some concealed storage. I was picturing some floating shelves hung above it on one side and a flat screen TV on a stand off to the other side. Needed something to replace my old IKEA 3-piece "entertainment center" pictured here...<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKN5UHIAemswngP7YrFGtiD0U0OiLS2y4hCl0foAKf1XdYyYDjKD97i7mxVrRWqUYmIkpCFFlKmpiiVjPUVbuNtNvlQ0wQlc2Yk-7cVZcju3ebytsdSPcjPkIhyphenhyphen0ELGNub_LN-7-wzlZJs/s1600/Blog+008.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5559219928103197746" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjKN5UHIAemswngP7YrFGtiD0U0OiLS2y4hCl0foAKf1XdYyYDjKD97i7mxVrRWqUYmIkpCFFlKmpiiVjPUVbuNtNvlQ0wQlc2Yk-7cVZcju3ebytsdSPcjPkIhyphenhyphen0ELGNub_LN-7-wzlZJs/s320/Blog+008.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /></a><br />
<br />
I searched and searched some of my favorite catalogs and nothing really struck me...I also hunted on Craigslist for several months...and then the perfect piece was posted. It would need some work to transform it into what I wanted, but it was going to be good...I just knew it. I took my mom along with me to go look at the piece...she needed more convincing that this was really going to look good in my room...but I knew it had a lot of potential! Here is the credenza shortly after unloading it into my garage:<br />

<br />
What I loved about it...clean lines, sits up off the ground a bit, clean fronts to the doors and drawers, and it is super long (about 90 inches!). Love! Now here is where the work came in...took off the doors on both ends and removed the drawers and shelves that were inside, sanded the entire piece thoroughly and then painted it black. Wow...the sanding was a tough job...it really took some elbow grease to get the varnish and stain sanded off. The rental of an orbital sander was a must! (About $20 for one day...well worth it!)<br />
<br />
The finished product...my vision is now reality...<br />

Of course right after bringing the credenza into the living room it was obvious that a new TV was in order too...went out to Sam's Club and bought one that afternoon! It is a much better fit than the old clunky TV, don't you think? The floating shelves come from Target for $9.99 each. Still working on the arrangement of the items on the shelves...more to come on that later...adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-48889556468177944372011-01-01T17:23:00.005-06:002011-01-01T18:19:37.479-06:00Anything Can Be Art: Pet Photos!Anything can be art! It's true...<br /><br />I recently assisted my mom with a simple, easy and inexpensive artwork project. She took a few photos of her dogs and then I took the digital files to <a href="http://www.samsclub.com/">Sam's Club</a> to get them printed. Sam's Club is great because they have the photo kiosks that are so easy to use to play around with your image until you get it looking exactly how you want. For the look we were after, I zoomed in on the dog's heads and turned the images into black and white using the kiosk. I was able to get the two 11x14 prints for $7...a steal! (Bonus: they were ready in 1 hour!) My mom bought the black frames with the matting for $18 each. Total cost of the project was about $43!<br /><br />What do you think? Cute, huh!?!? Black and white pet photos could add a little whimsy and fun to almost any room! <br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5DG-hLXoB0OZm-5xx54SpKaWcJ5H8FdvAF71TYLQZIJ7CQRSarWSertWU6R0o8LcJDKN6mbX2yQ9xpLKsMRpOEt6QKgsjTFRWJybvgLIg6nrVwgYFHHNYUTOcw7r6z1Df6KqC4G45Y1Tl/s1600/Blog_PetPhotos1.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5557375057711543666" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5DG-hLXoB0OZm-5xx54SpKaWcJ5H8FdvAF71TYLQZIJ7CQRSarWSertWU6R0o8LcJDKN6mbX2yQ9xpLKsMRpOEt6QKgsjTFRWJybvgLIg6nrVwgYFHHNYUTOcw7r6z1Df6KqC4G45Y1Tl/s320/Blog_PetPhotos1.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTUvhfTqTa-8_kxmYI7oDKlQuowj_UcU0LsLLhLcjEnhITaOLX890MnW-pMo6QeZcMndLI9afYkZwVMevrsnb4cZgNgU-MISLnNn7HoySzb3JQ-_MVUpTaCiK6h27XHx2G5yLbRWL0E_5R/s1600/Blog_PetPhotos2.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5557375207605747522" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTUvhfTqTa-8_kxmYI7oDKlQuowj_UcU0LsLLhLcjEnhITaOLX890MnW-pMo6QeZcMndLI9afYkZwVMevrsnb4cZgNgU-MISLnNn7HoySzb3JQ-_MVUpTaCiK6h27XHx2G5yLbRWL0E_5R/s320/Blog_PetPhotos2.jpg" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4miitfQgQeVyJLqqqtcoZ68sj0b99G6ymKXtB42kEOo7hPDUyVL0TZHiiacnoqobSqBWs5DVqi_pye5f-kKnS_Ls94Wb6zBHss4Zv4wqS-Fj1cVOWjOTlRq2bdGQE4mqSXsickhlT_58/s1600/Blog_PetPhotos3.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 240px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5557375352086561058" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil4miitfQgQeVyJLqqqtcoZ68sj0b99G6ymKXtB42kEOo7hPDUyVL0TZHiiacnoqobSqBWs5DVqi_pye5f-kKnS_Ls94Wb6zBHss4Zv4wqS-Fj1cVOWjOTlRq2bdGQE4mqSXsickhlT_58/s320/Blog_PetPhotos3.jpg" /></a>adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-43377552342586009392010-11-08T14:04:00.010-06:002013-06-15T14:06:28.320-05:00Reupholstery!!<strong>The good news</strong>...I found a pair of mid-century lounge chairs that I love at a great price! (Found the chairs at <a href="http://www.furniturelounge.net/">Furniture Lounge</a> of course!)<br />
<br />
<strong>The bad news</strong>...they were a mustard yellow color that just wasn't going to work!<br />

<br />
LOVE the way they turned out! I'm not going to lie...reupholstery is not cheap...but it can be a great way to customize a special piece! <br />
<br />
I had my heart set on contrast piping and it just so happened that my mom had the perfect black fabric on hand for the piping...perfect! The two chairs sit by an iron and glass table, yellow footstool and striped lamp...a great place to read, enjoy a beverage or watch TV! I found the yellow and grey throw pillows at a wonderful Etsy shop called <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/idari">Idari</a>...check out her pillows in such fun fabrics at a great price! </div>

Baby ShowerI recently had the pleasure of co-hosting a baby shower for a good friend of mine. We chose a bumble bee theme that incorporated the fact that they didn't know if the baby was a boy or girl...the theme was "What Will It Bee?". It should be no surprise that when we split up duties for the shower among the co-hosts that I chose invitations and decorations! It was so much fun putting it all together!<br /><br />I purchased an invitation template from an Etsy shop called <a href="http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=43363624">Sweetbeets</a> to get it all started. (It also included templates for a banner, notecard, favorboxes and a punch sheet) These printable templates are awesome! I was emailed a link to the files (very quickly might I add!), customized them and printed them myself. What a great way to get the look of custom invitations cheaper and quicker!! I chose to spice up the invitation by mouting it on black cardstock and attaching a black and white gingham ribbon at the top. The only other template file I used was the punch sheet...I used different sized circle punches and sprinkled the circles down the middle of the tables and adhered a punched out circle to the top of each placemat.<br /><br />Here are some photos of the party:<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKZQ-K0M22ZhqF-3TUleawmtqZX95w5Ugcs6SDXyfrHx_gBWCIvRQdbllFgf1l6CrMs3YL0Xa0KqnGVuXOXsBhUO3ZIahMQQcINEAbt1UMSaM-0xsO0e5uq-rbrvzbTUPXID5FE5Mc6evf/s1600/NatShower+007.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454190742310769170" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKZQ-K0M22ZhqF-3TUleawmtqZX95w5Ugcs6SDXyfrHx_gBWCIvRQdbllFgf1l6CrMs3YL0Xa0KqnGVuXOXsBhUO3ZIahMQQcINEAbt1UMSaM-0xsO0e5uq-rbrvzbTUPXID5FE5Mc6evf/s320/NatShower+007.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiywW9T-eP0wxPrVY0IoJfTLYHzMIhbduHPVF0UX3NNxbvn0_cPMuaS3dAY5-qFIBv6j7TwsRExu-OT1zj-1gdhc86SgMK6se8dMJ5GKIu-qse6zCTBCemWdMCtsDyLPfWCJFRwI7-wj9Nd/s1600/NatShower+006.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454191242505715442" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiywW9T-eP0wxPrVY0IoJfTLYHzMIhbduHPVF0UX3NNxbvn0_cPMuaS3dAY5-qFIBv6j7TwsRExu-OT1zj-1gdhc86SgMK6se8dMJ5GKIu-qse6zCTBCemWdMCtsDyLPfWCJFRwI7-wj9Nd/s320/NatShower+006.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The favors for each guest were a small bottle of Burt's Bees hand lotion and a few Bit O' Honey candies wrapped up in a little tulle and tied with a ribbon.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTloldAjDG_aB7WMfEJDkQ63luVIaUrabKdoZL4Ufii9YsV6_Lob280UzmfvH8H8QYPqqDAXYmcp5YmO3otXXSqQSGDlzn4_oPE6CA7dHVVgOYxTUw0ILI292izyQ3Ou7LT-YrLE5hGGLJ/s1600/NatShower+005.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454191234498554002" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTloldAjDG_aB7WMfEJDkQ63luVIaUrabKdoZL4Ufii9YsV6_Lob280UzmfvH8H8QYPqqDAXYmcp5YmO3otXXSqQSGDlzn4_oPE6CA7dHVVgOYxTUw0ILI292izyQ3Ou7LT-YrLE5hGGLJ/s320/NatShower+005.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl0RMoINl5qMiwToNz2Fn7jDGpwaHIuHL-YmBBuCxExsvDtCBOgtXey49-QlbkVKjb6F9FVShQxmM1jfkGMZDp9P_RFK4brpAFQHJzG-bbYiJRDRXQV4WNKCpNulLwAcVaZ5TSDBXFNSyh/s1600/NatShower+011.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454191225653713890" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhl0RMoINl5qMiwToNz2Fn7jDGpwaHIuHL-YmBBuCxExsvDtCBOgtXey49-QlbkVKjb6F9FVShQxmM1jfkGMZDp9P_RFK4brpAFQHJzG-bbYiJRDRXQV4WNKCpNulLwAcVaZ5TSDBXFNSyh/s320/NatShower+011.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6TkCuU4Ch5x_GaCuw_9w9hc9xmjg6zu_ngNmd6sL87aoOs4VkdpJxlMPSMQ2wPajRQqBi0e-1soeGzNopt31by2DjG6Xqkaa82F2SS8Hga9xHMzSHNBrQmfAWusRs3iwHMiosgiiTm9Gf/s1600/NatShower+008.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454191216921563442" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj6TkCuU4Ch5x_GaCuw_9w9hc9xmjg6zu_ngNmd6sL87aoOs4VkdpJxlMPSMQ2wPajRQqBi0e-1soeGzNopt31by2DjG6Xqkaa82F2SS8Hga9xHMzSHNBrQmfAWusRs3iwHMiosgiiTm9Gf/s320/NatShower+008.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>The cake was made to match the invitation by the <a href="http://www.lovinovencakery.com/">Lovin Oven Cakery</a> in Libertyville...they did a fabulous job and it was delicious too!</div><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge1cNSxRLhQLrTgU4pTj-T3oRYjgX5URzAa8aH5plQMa9abi-Plic9I0jFr8lGz_OUYVtdo6O1escI8cR50-xIDnJHUuvzgqogPmHLumrJD17CObbHRkTqTJssNJGaecXXkX5j0ZXfT_23/s1600/NatShower+003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5454186326597850114" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge1cNSxRLhQLrTgU4pTj-T3oRYjgX5URzAa8aH5plQMa9abi-Plic9I0jFr8lGz_OUYVtdo6O1escI8cR50-xIDnJHUuvzgqogPmHLumrJD17CObbHRkTqTJssNJGaecXXkX5j0ZXfT_23/s320/NatShower+003.jpg" border="0" /></a></div></div><br /><br /><p>A mod and fresh baby shower for a mod and fresh momma-to-bee! A vintage aluminum tree would be amazing, but since those are a little hard to find, for now I will use my silver tinsel tree. I have decorated it with red and white ornaments...handmade red and white polkadot bows, glass candy cane ornaments, red glass spiral ornaments and much more!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5x-eUe_EQqeYsgW_8j3Ot_j8MJ-eieLlVbcUJq0zEg4TagUJAKClZuUOs_AgR0A3gO3ysgwUSRPpvp8ZBEXB0znGu5QmDXGc1GwGgz2-GrDQbU_ShCXTejB9uy_fy55u9QhcxFj2AROa1/s1600-h/DSC03366.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg5x-eUe_EQqeYsgW_8j3Ot_j8MJ-eieLlVbcUJq0zEg4TagUJAKClZuUOs_AgR0A3gO3ysgwUSRPpvp8ZBEXB0znGu5QmDXGc1GwGgz2-GrDQbU_ShCXTejB9uy_fy55u9QhcxFj2AROa1/s320/DSC03366.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420351709555652626" border="0" /></a><br />My mom's black and white Christmas tree is amazing! Check it out! She has a 7ft artificial white tree and has decorated it with some beautiful black, white and silver ornaments. She has quite a bit of "bling" on her tree too, which is really fun...reinstone word ornaments, black crystal sprays, and glittery high heel shoe and handbag ornaments. Lovely!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT1dtUWrHqUm7dJdno6GHjPRkEHjkDPas8Ck3Xrw_wljP0DiEYqXAy4xzS2jQc54vFbti7AHR-JiUhsQ2TwlyT_XSA5Rvbcw014EChGgGyTwhjBpDJ2UdsiTp6SYI7LL9cKNmNTiLb02wY/s1600-h/DSC03312.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT1dtUWrHqUm7dJdno6GHjPRkEHjkDPas8Ck3Xrw_wljP0DiEYqXAy4xzS2jQc54vFbti7AHR-JiUhsQ2TwlyT_XSA5Rvbcw014EChGgGyTwhjBpDJ2UdsiTp6SYI7LL9cKNmNTiLb02wY/s320/DSC03312.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420354960906403826" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZpnhc7pCRVjQHRd1djtOgMphwZuUrZUaHLcXObd_6eoRBKfQnDMh9IVloiKloH1zCio3WF9VqKp_ogQfFIkbEhdhwa-JMSgNkabFrq2avCKRmRjqIYdI53ufUQ2v68-jYupRS2uwx5YCL/s1600-h/DSC03313.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZpnhc7pCRVjQHRd1djtOgMphwZuUrZUaHLcXObd_6eoRBKfQnDMh9IVloiKloH1zCio3WF9VqKp_ogQfFIkbEhdhwa-JMSgNkabFrq2avCKRmRjqIYdI53ufUQ2v68-jYupRS2uwx5YCL/s320/DSC03313.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5420355169541709810" border="0" /></a><br />I think this black and white look would also look great with a real flocked tree if you want to have a real tree in the house! Growing up, my grandmother always had a real flocked tree in her house and it was awesome. For many years she decorated it only with purple bows and purple glass ball ornaments...an awesome modern look!<br /><br />In keeping with our color schemes, both my mom and I wrap our gifts exclusively in corrdinating wrapping....paper, ribbon, bags, etc. It is so much fun to be on the hunt for a new paper or roll of ribbon that coordinates with our trees...such a great feeling when you find something new! The coordinating wrapped gifts under the tree really complete the look!<br /><br />Happy New Year!adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-40735342950155919722009-12-02T21:19:00.003-06:002009-12-02T21:39:39.456-06:00Create your own pop art!One of my favorite art projects in my house is my Marilyn Monroe pop art feature wall in my home office...check it out!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8-kvG_gGxcrF5-_H-oNTuC5V_F2Co7yFcN8JCNJwRMEMwtSZGI0rpHGFL4sQAw5iBaSNI8YP4PveHDDTVK4MekhGRVzEUjQBJQop9P1dEO_V-Xsoot-NrmDwHk0YBs-EijhY0djqejSci/s1600-h/DSC04283.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8-kvG_gGxcrF5-_H-oNTuC5V_F2Co7yFcN8JCNJwRMEMwtSZGI0rpHGFL4sQAw5iBaSNI8YP4PveHDDTVK4MekhGRVzEUjQBJQop9P1dEO_V-Xsoot-NrmDwHk0YBs-EijhY0djqejSci/s320/DSC04283.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5410845620455905634" border="0" /></a><br />I found these Marilyn photos on wooden plaques at TJ Maxx for under $20 each. I thought that they needed a bold color background so that the black and white photos would really "pop" off the wall. I put my old chrome and black futon in my office and thought that a bright red would add some life to the room...perfect! Measuring and taping off the rectangle shape was the hardest part of this project and takes some time so that your rectangle looks centered on the wall and has nice sharp edges.<br /><br />Measure...tape...paint...hang photographs...done!<br /><br />Looks kind of Andy Warholish to me...love him!<br /><br />I think this same concept would be really cool with personal photographs or portraits in black and white...imagine using a vintage b&w photo of a family member, portraits of your children, fun photo of your pet, etc....lots of possibilities! Give it a try in your house!adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-38846128640236437282009-11-03T21:33:00.005-06:002011-01-20T18:45:03.585-06:00Vintage Find: Amazing mid-century artwork!Let me introduce you to my new amazing vintage artwork! I recently purchased these these 3 pieces at <a href="http://www.furniturelounge.net/">Furniture Lounge</a> in downtown Urbana, IL. I'm not sure about the background or history of these particular pieces, but for some reason I think they are from the 1960's. They are teardrop shaped wooden plaques painted with images of bottles...the turquoise blue on the plaques matches the walls in my dining room PERFECTLY! They were meant to be mine!<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq7KKKNIXkb_P5YY6ZG8HPA-_MfdIbaHGSyrBGoNH8AXpgjfaN_GlolrfhgrOFh-pQ_7CK7rQaN9uoVyFMhlCHjb7pnZOKz_LFUkibnfzY7Z0YVLUDtSuVG17JMEWvxtqUVvQaEygrtGlX/s1600-h/DSC04868.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400088686829111762" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiq7KKKNIXkb_P5YY6ZG8HPA-_MfdIbaHGSyrBGoNH8AXpgjfaN_GlolrfhgrOFh-pQ_7CK7rQaN9uoVyFMhlCHjb7pnZOKz_LFUkibnfzY7Z0YVLUDtSuVG17JMEWvxtqUVvQaEygrtGlX/s320/DSC04868.JPG" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0L8govH_d6PVVbbNgI8dbNaX4KRWpOEs966mdpDLhEWtT3kbUxPhlN98XZwoSm9tIGZfR6CK_TruG878aCm0vHbBkGs6kW8WhGK_81_HFhZa29lnN17Tjq_vw4XTdrFp2qT14bxsxaJQi/s1600-h/DSC04869.JPG"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 320px; CURSOR: pointer" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400089166806368834" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0L8govH_d6PVVbbNgI8dbNaX4KRWpOEs966mdpDLhEWtT3kbUxPhlN98XZwoSm9tIGZfR6CK_TruG878aCm0vHbBkGs6kW8WhGK_81_HFhZa29lnN17Tjq_vw4XTdrFp2qT14bxsxaJQi/s320/DSC04869.JPG" /></a>I have an awesome black & white photo of my grandparents' old diner in my dining room currently...the wooden plaques add some great color to the space and look amazing flanking the windows in that room! I scored two tables, a lamp and some artwork...all amazing mid-century vintage items.<br />
<br />
Love, love, love this lamp! The base and shade were sold seperately and my mom put the two together for an awesome pair. The base is a vintage <a href="http://www.haegerpotteries.com/">Haeger Potteries</a> lamp made out of light yellow ceramic and black metal. The shape reminds me a bit of a lava lamp! The shade is made out of fiberglass and has abstract swirls of black and copper all over it with black plastic cord whipstiching on the top and bottom. Don't they look great together!?!<br />

I'm sure I'm not alone on this one...<br /><br />Solution: drape a decorative custom fleece blanket on top!<br /><br />No-sew fleece blankets are super easy to make and the fleece section of your local fabric store is loaded with solid and pattern choices of fleece material. Lots of possibilities! The only materials needed are two pieces of fleece and a pair of scissors. Inexpensive! If you have never made a blanket like this, check out an instructional video <a href="http://www.instructables.com/id/No-Sew-Fleece-Blanket/">here</a>.<br /><br />My mom and I took on this project together, each creating blankets to go on the top of the dog crates at our houses. We both decided to go with a whimsical dog bone print and a solid black on the reverse. Dog bone print certainly isn't for everyone though....if the whimsical look is not your style I think a pattern & solid or two different solids that coordinate with your room would be great!<br /><br />Crate and blanket at my house:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHiDLr3Aa4YqP_bpWsybu0zTqfz-FF6rrZp-mTOK_w8DY3dgmRrqGYNVgoSLfmtucoWChCLjkjO6jiExqyc2P9S4KweOPiPh1qVI-voU_JJ0DKJDMKufMHIGUFn77xl2jFmEyDatclwZVR/s1600-h/DSC04851.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHiDLr3Aa4YqP_bpWsybu0zTqfz-FF6rrZp-mTOK_w8DY3dgmRrqGYNVgoSLfmtucoWChCLjkjO6jiExqyc2P9S4KweOPiPh1qVI-voU_JJ0DKJDMKufMHIGUFn77xl2jFmEyDatclwZVR/s320/DSC04851.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381146899429982562" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGuDsUNCKisi3jxnqfCoIonLCZf83OXFeefH8zXDiGXLYd9mzayoJAq0TJvIf8AoTHm-JSE9aXNEBIztC6InEHdo2QQgCs5cuhONeHrkfDaD5K6OVaO0tIMdWOcYvGvAxCPuysgLmHYVg/s1600-h/DSC04853.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpGuDsUNCKisi3jxnqfCoIonLCZf83OXFeefH8zXDiGXLYd9mzayoJAq0TJvIf8AoTHm-JSE9aXNEBIztC6InEHdo2QQgCs5cuhONeHrkfDaD5K6OVaO0tIMdWOcYvGvAxCPuysgLmHYVg/s320/DSC04853.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381147466431026274" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:85%;"><span style="font-style: italic;">See how much Gerty loves her little cave!</span></span><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDgyY_I9WuGUXDgl3f40YoiWrlQlBrha27T9KtiGX2PNbgl9kkUJ_pj0p4A0OGt7X7nzk38E6RZAPVxsZVrbQyZO-oxsi_H3pSuhMwYBExxhoCTCNCaGzV2o1stsoUcFu7frhLI2bDvW1C/s1600-h/DSC04857.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDgyY_I9WuGUXDgl3f40YoiWrlQlBrha27T9KtiGX2PNbgl9kkUJ_pj0p4A0OGt7X7nzk38E6RZAPVxsZVrbQyZO-oxsi_H3pSuhMwYBExxhoCTCNCaGzV2o1stsoUcFu7frhLI2bDvW1C/s320/DSC04857.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381147908473934978" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Two crates and one big blanket at my mom's house:<br /><span style="font-style: italic;font-size:85%;" >Notice how the black and white dog bone pattern coordinates with the black and white buffalo check curtains in the room.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigChJlgQUhzrmxFREhLeo7uAiNanQm0nLAeIKWPOt2mP9LYRf5aZXXAbXqYK-kfAdjJr6XjyZ5edKTU6zD_CM05EUp2HUhKJSyVvSPNhWm-OLYTDEtFIxC5VoCR32W1XhjiWSzoYMgdIqt/s1600-h/DSC04848.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigChJlgQUhzrmxFREhLeo7uAiNanQm0nLAeIKWPOt2mP9LYRf5aZXXAbXqYK-kfAdjJr6XjyZ5edKTU6zD_CM05EUp2HUhKJSyVvSPNhWm-OLYTDEtFIxC5VoCR32W1XhjiWSzoYMgdIqt/s320/DSC04848.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381148446464648834" border="0" /></a><br /><br />If you make your blanket big enough to cover all sides of the crate, you can completely hide the crate if you ever want to!<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF2GHzYwGsCWjDbxQLoF_12G_G2xKlpl_KycZvitTmfLiS7CuG3_PdI7xQy8TGeUHYNE0BE-HKSE8DEPZFcH8Uc1XtxKztffA-Wa_U3xs9E5NucAUpFWEXUT56OMdPWITPjc2-axmyrQit/s1600-h/DSC04850.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgF2GHzYwGsCWjDbxQLoF_12G_G2xKlpl_KycZvitTmfLiS7CuG3_PdI7xQy8TGeUHYNE0BE-HKSE8DEPZFcH8Uc1XtxKztffA-Wa_U3xs9E5NucAUpFWEXUT56OMdPWITPjc2-axmyrQit/s320/DSC04850.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381148878920868146" border="0" /></a><br /></span><br />A fun and easy project that camouflages your four legged friend's home and gives them a cozier place to rest! Instead of buying an entirely new dishwasher I opted to purchase new black panels to update and coordinate. A quick phone call to the Lowe's Appliance Parts & Accessories Hotline (1-800-476-8160) and a few days later the panels arrived. For only about $60 I think it turned out great. I don't think so!<br /><br />So many colors, so many possibilities! I started collecting Fiesta about 8 years ago with my first purchases of a few place settings. I am now the proud owner of 12 place settings each in a different color and many other coordinating serving pieces and accessories. The classic style of Fiesta looks good in both contemporary and traditional kitchens. I have opted for collecting pieces in a wide variety of colors, but that's not for everyone...picking two or three different coordinating colors would be a great way of incorporating Fiesta into your kitchen too! The folks at Fiesta keep you on your toes with the introduction of new colors and the retirement of older colors. The newest color was introduced late last year and is a dark brown called "Chocolate". It would look great as an accent with the Ivory for a crisp look or with Tangerine or Turquoise for a punch. <br /><br />My 12 place settings:<br />(From top: Juniper, Chartreuse, Cobalt, Peacock, Sea Mist, Cinnabar, Yellow, Periwinkle, Pearl Gray, Rose, Persimmon, and Plum)<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiqTneKMVSuP22lS85wqTpOOIU3i_jlj81g8_GuoH9efXUDuxdv6Mv_VKnMEtziQ4hYRBvYXPfYGEhAwATqTk7z1RqxmkSgG6NUDSHJdZ7gfujNeAe5FcL0-uCs3VLFHcmdU2upgIfSA2B/s1600-h/DSC04402.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiqTneKMVSuP22lS85wqTpOOIU3i_jlj81g8_GuoH9efXUDuxdv6Mv_VKnMEtziQ4hYRBvYXPfYGEhAwATqTk7z1RqxmkSgG6NUDSHJdZ7gfujNeAe5FcL0-uCs3VLFHcmdU2upgIfSA2B/s320/DSC04402.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318815923057899490" /></a><br /><br />This is my stove and several Fiesta accessories....mugs on a mug tree, chartreuse tea pot, persimmon salt & pepper shakers, yellow spoon rest, persimmon utensil crock and an apricot napkin holder. Round mirrors...wow...the possibilities are endless! Be creative! I was inspired by the circles on the bedding in my guest room to add round mirrors to the decor. I went with a random pattern and think it turned out awesome!<br />
<br />
All of the mirrors came from Target and were very reasonably priced. The large mirror is an <a href="http://www.target.com/Round-Bevel-Mirror-18/dp/B0010B5S8C/ref=sc_ri_4?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=0T6YP16492Y519AZ6YV0&pf_rd_p=471801991&pf_rd_i=B0010BCE8E&pf_rd_s=bottom-11&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201">18" beveled mirror</a> and was $19.99. The other <a href="http://www.target.com/Frameless-Circle-Mirrors-7-pc-Set/dp/B0010BCE8E/ref=sc_ri_1?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=049DZSTSBQ14YK373R0N&pf_rd_p=471801991&pf_rd_i=B0010B5S8C&pf_rd_s=bottom-11&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201">7 mirrors</a> came together in a set also for only $19.99. The large mirror is big enough to actually be functional. I had been challenged with what to put on the walls in this room for a long time and I am very happy with the mirror grouping...gets me a little closer to "finishing" this room! <br />

Other round mirror ideas and inspirations:<br />
<br />
• <a href="http://www.cb2.com/family.aspx?c=589&f=3357&q=mirror&fromLocation=Search&DIMID=400001&SearchPage=1">cb2</a> has a 5 mirror set framed in aluminum...very cool. Check out the room view pictures for some creative ideas. This one is my favorite...so orginal! <a href="http://images.cb2.com/is/image/CB2/odysseywhitetablebanditchrSC09?fmt=jpeg&qlt=90,0&op_sharpen=1&resMode=bicub&op_usm=1.2,0.0,0.5,0&iccEmbed=0&scl=5&fmt=jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img alt="" border="0" src="http://images.cb2.com/is/image/CB2/odysseywhitetablebanditchrSC09?fmt=jpeg&qlt=90,0&op_sharpen=1&resMode=bicub&op_usm=1.2,0.0,0.5,0&iccEmbed=0&scl=5&fmt=jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /></a><br />
• Target also sells a <a href="http://www.target.com/Self-Adhesive-Floating-Mirrors-Set/dp/B000OAES40/ref=sc_ri_3?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=11WZREKG7Q5RB38RXZHN&pf_rd_p=471801991&pf_rd_i=B0010BCE8E&pf_rd_s=bottom-11&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=201">9 piece mirror set</a> that are all the same size. This 1960's lamp is the coolest! My mom found it at a vintage store in downtown Champaign called Carrie's. It was in need of some updating though...the wiring needed re-done, I needed a lampshade and the brass elements didn't go with my decor either. The folks at <a href="http://www.tepperelectric.com/">Tepper Electric</a> did the re-wiring and ordered the perfect tall, black shade for it. I then spray painted the brass parts silver to go with my room a bit more. Check out the transformation:<br />

I absolutely LOVE the finished product! (Though I wonder if I would love it even more if the silver color was a bit darker...more like pewter?? Hmmm...) The yellow, blue and orange are the perfect colors and it adds a lot of vintage flair and drama to the room! See what fun it can be to update an old item to make it work for your space. Such a fun little display...and it was cheap enough that I won't be too hearbroken to take it down someday and replace it with something new.adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-58809404769768879512009-02-27T12:11:00.004-06:002009-02-27T12:49:56.567-06:00Great magazine!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQxjUFgZI__3VgJXIratBwOduMBhxmNCxbX7jlniJtuhdgnwhyphenhyphenn626NCU9Md6UnmNuMv1ZqQi0Z7a1mTD_zf2zDFqlyOZvdiofWWJ-AVs3g274HAU0UYTUOfP5a7IEoDa70SvZpgESxU4C/s1600-h/atomicranch.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307551159535080530" style="FLOAT: left; MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; WIDTH: 246px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQxjUFgZI__3VgJXIratBwOduMBhxmNCxbX7jlniJtuhdgnwhyphenhyphenn626NCU9Md6UnmNuMv1ZqQi0Z7a1mTD_zf2zDFqlyOZvdiofWWJ-AVs3g274HAU0UYTUOfP5a7IEoDa70SvZpgESxU4C/s320/atomicranch.jpg" border="0" /></a> <a href="http://www.atomic-ranch.com/">Atomic Ranch</a> is a fantastic magazine focusing on mid-century architecture...1940's-1960's ranches and modern homes. There are tons of great pictures of exteriors and interiors of many different homes in each issue. It is so fun to take a peak inside other people's houses to see how they have interpreted mid-century design and of course "borrow" ideas from them! One of the things I love the most about the magazine are all the advertisements for great stores and companies focused on mid-century decor and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">accessories</span>...anything from 1950's style numbers for the outside of your house to shops specializing in mid-century modern artwork...the best part is that most ads list a website that you can explore! I highly recommend this magazine to mid-century design lovers...such great inspirations! I have also just discovered that they list links to their advertisers on their website...check the list out <a href="http://www.atomic-ranch.com/resources/advertisers.php">here</a>!<br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><div></div>adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7365995755212952266.post-83425709964830999572009-02-25T21:43:00.006-06:002009-02-25T22:11:41.184-06:00Fun & Cheap Art!<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOE4EDCyPgKG7Aa2qr_OcAquUY08GwnNqdyG-IZkJnSekEVLZd6IpB-jqoR7vt4leODhBmDDtuOa_DHB1b_fwZnw1CwMRcqI1zfGnVrmxfuOVf32mMQPI85H2ChvyJc8lhYtdvkupx7uOl/s1600-h/DSC04278.JPG"><span style="display: block;" id="formatbar_Buttons"><span class="on" style="display: block;" id="formatbar_CreateLink" title="Link" onmouseover="ButtonHoverOn(this);" onmouseout="ButtonHoverOff(this);" onmouseup="" onmousedown="CheckFormatting(event);FormatbarButton('richeditorframe', this, 8);ButtonMouseDown(this);"><img src="http://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif" alt="Link" class="gl_link" border="0" /></span></span><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOE4EDCyPgKG7Aa2qr_OcAquUY08GwnNqdyG-IZkJnSekEVLZd6IpB-jqoR7vt4leODhBmDDtuOa_DHB1b_fwZnw1CwMRcqI1zfGnVrmxfuOVf32mMQPI85H2ChvyJc8lhYtdvkupx7uOl/s320/DSC04278.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5306950559475080434" border="0" /></a><br /><span style="font-size:100%;"><span style="font-family:verdana;">This is one of my favorite art projects! I purchased a duvet cover from <a href="http://www.ikea.com/">IKEA</a> for $15 and used it to create these four art pieces. All we did was cut up the duvet cover into four different pieces and then stapled them to canvases...super easy and fun! The living room had all white walls when I bought the house...after I made these art pieces I knew that they needed to be on a colored wall in order to "pop"...gray was the perfect choice with all the elements in the room...I absolutely love how this turned out! Modern planters can also be hard to find...I found this one at <a href="http://www.cb2.com/">cb2</a>. They come in 3 different sizes and I have one of each size...the one in this picture is the middle sized one.</span></span>adyehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11410893089909426574noreply@blogger.com0
